Amalie is a psychological period drama adapted from the novels of Norwegian feminist writer Amalie Skram. It follows a fiercely gifted painter who enters a sanatorium of her own free will, only to find the walls closing in as her mind, her art and her very self are pathologised.
What begins as a search for rest becomes a fight for autonomy — a story about who gets to define madness, and what happens when a woman refuses to be cured into silence.
